Yes. I googled, "my kids are driving me crazy"

I was counting on preschool yesterday to get a number of things done. None of which included toting around the kids in the back seat in 11 degree weather. So when we got to the preschool and I saw the empty parking lot and realized it was canceled due to weather it took a quick mental adjusting to get in the game for a day at home. and a day where I got nothing done that was on 'my' list.
Today's mops was canceled as well. And I am at my wits end. I am yelling at them because they don't listen. I say one thing, they do another. I saw 'don't do that, it is dangerous' and they get hurt. I sat down and googled, "My kids are driving me crazy". And the first article I read was:
http://www.familyresource.com/parenting/behavior-issues/my-kids-are-driving-me-crazy

Problem #1: My kids don't listen to me

To expect that kids will listen to you perfectly all the time is an irrational thought. Kids don't listen and attend to things in the same way that adults do. They can be intensely focused on the activity they're involved with. Kids will often need you to repeat things a number of times in a patient, pleasant tone. And yes, your job is to be very patient with them.

So it isn't really the kids. It is me. Job: be patient. I have failed. Scarrymommy.com is probably going to contact me for an interview.

Ok, I have to delurk...and respectfully disagree with what you found through Googling. Your children should listen to you. You are the authority in your home & if they aren't listening to you, that doesn't bode well for your dynamic or there future interactions with authority figures (like teachers, bosses, etc.).

No judgement or anything- I've CERTAINLY been there (and then some). I just hate to hold back when I hear advice like this...If your up for doing the work & making a true change- so that they will actually listen to you- I swear by the e-book Too Much Love Too Much Discipline...It'll get those kids listening to ya.

I have to admit that it was my ineffective screaming at the kids which are pretty young, that led to the conviction that I need to be more patient. With that being said, you are completely right that kids should listen. I will certainly look into that book! thanks!

Mary Mac,
I'm right in the middle of a discipline crack down with Nathan, because I realized he wasn't listening to anything I told him. I don't want to get to the point of not wanting to be around my own children, and that's where we were headed.

Mary Mac, we're going through the same thing with Evan. It seems that the tougher we are with discipline and expectations, the better he is. I totally understand the "my kids are driving me crazy" thing though. It doesn't help that you're 30+ weeks pregnant and probably tired and ready to meet Caitlin!
